One in five British Columbians live with chronic pain.
What is Chronic Pain?
- Chronic Pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than three months.
- It often continues for years.
- Causes include conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia or migraines.
- It is also recognized as a condition in its own right.
Accessing Resources
- Specialized chronic pain support can be difficult to access for Mission residents. Many people are turning online for help.
- Many patients with chronic pain in the East Fraser region are referred to the Chronic Pain Clinic at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre in Surrey, which offers assessment, care and education for managing pain.
- Long waitlists and travel times can make the clinic difficult to access.
